Partnership between ISPUP and PÚBLICO forecasts the seven-day evolution of COVID-19

ISPUP and the newspaper PÚBLICO established a partnership to provide a seven-day forecast of the number of new cases of infection in Portugal, its evolution by region, the number of deaths, hospitalizations and patients in intensive care units, as well as the reproduction number (R). The forecasts are available on the PÚBLICO newspaper's website.


COVID-19 decreased testing for HIV, hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections

There was a sharp decline in the number of tests performed for HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections, between March and August 2020, in the European Region of the World Health Organization due to COVID-19. The conclusion is from a recent study in which ISPUP participated.

Doubts, concerns and fears of the Portuguese population during the first month of the pandemic

A study by ISPUP looked at the doubts, concerns and fears of the Portuguese population, during the first month of the COVID-19 pandemic in Portugal, by analyzing the questions submitted by citizens in some national forums. The article concluded that the content of the questions asked evolved overtime, following the course of the pandemic and the measures implemented by the Portuguese Government. The large number of questions about modes of transmission and prevention of the disease, may demonstrate that the information conveyed by the health authorities did not reach the population effectively.

HIV: there is room to improve the criteria used for prescribing PrEP

An ISPUP study stresses the importance of rethinking the eligibility criteria used for prescribing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) - a form of pharmacological prevention of HIV for individuals most at risk.

Trees around schools help reduce inflammation in children's airways

A recent study by ISPUP found that children who attend schools surrounded by more trees have better lung function, and less difficulty breathing, dry cough and wheezing. The study used nitric oxide as a marker to assess airway inflammation.
