Diaries of a Pandemic: Portuguese women's testimony of the first year of COVID-19

Older women reported a greater concern for their health and that of their loved ones, mentioned being more afraid of being infected and said they know more people that have died due to COVID-19. Older women also had fewer feelings of sadness, despair, depression and anxiety, and less difficulty in coping compared to younger women. These are some of the findings released in a new report from the Diaries of a Pandemic study.

Preliminary results of the study on the impact of the pandemic on women victims of gender violence 

The preliminary results of the project Impact of SARS-CoV-2 in the social determinants of Gender Violence: Proposals for Action and Intervention, funded under the "GENDER RESEARCH 4 COVID-19" support line, have been disclosed.

One year of a pandemic in brief 

March of this year marked the one-year anniversary of the pandemic in Portugal. Since then, ISPUP has made a daily contribution to respond to this new public health challenge, mobilising many of its researchers with a common goal in mind. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, much has been said about epidemiology and several questions have arisen concerning the job of an epidemiologist. In this article, we explain what epidemiology is, what an epidemiologist does, and address the role of ISPUP in epidemiology training and research.

FCT announces the approval of the ITR Associated Laboratory

The Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) announced the approval of the application of the ITR - Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health to become an associated laboratory. ITR was born out of the partnership between three research units - EPIUnit of ISPUP, CIAFEL, of the Faculdade de Desporto da U.Porto, and UMIB, of the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar da U.Porto.
