Living in deprived places increases the risk of death particularly among those with worse socioeconomic conditions

An international study led by ISPUP and recently published in the prestigious scientific journal The Lancet Public Health has concluded that people living in more deprived neighbourhoods have a higher risk of death, particularly if they also have lower educational attainment.


ISPUP study shows immunotherapy can prevent asthma in children

Immunotherapy, also known as anti-allergic vaccine, or allergy shot, can help prevent the progression of allergic diseases and the development of asthma in children with sensitivity to allergens such as pollen and dust mites, according to an ISPUP investigation published in the scientific journal Allergy.


Study assessed preparedness and responsiveness of healthcare professionals during pandemic

An ISPUP study concluded that, for health professionals to be more responsive in a public health emergency, it is important that they have a clear understanding of their role and understand the importance of their actions in solving the problem. The research also draws attention to the need for health institutions to have mental health teams available to assist workers at higher risk of burnout.


ISPUP project to study the impact of maternity on women's income

The MERIT project - MothER Income Inequality project was born with the ultimate goal of helping to prepare recommendations that mitigate the impact of motherhood on women's income and career path, with a view to reducing gender asymmetries. The project was one of the winners of the EEA Grants Portugal competition.



More than 250 students participated in the AlergiaPT project contests  

The contests for the school community organised within the AlergiaPT project, promoted by ISPUP, counted with the participation of 253 primary, middle, and secondary school students from four districts of Portugal. The competitions, which started in March and ended on April 13 of this year, challenged Portuguese students to submit works on allergy-related topics using their schools' social networks.
