… The University of Porto is currently establishing the Porto Research Data Centre (PoRDC), its future hub for research data management, reinforcing its commitment to Open Science and best practices in data stewardship?

As part of its commitment to research data management, the University of Porto is currently establishing the Porto Research Data Centre (PoRDC) — a new support service for the scientific community aligned with Open Science principles and both national and European guidelines. The Centre aims to assist researchers in the responsible, efficient, and open management of research data.

PoRDC seeks to implement shared and interoperable solutions, promoting best practices in the organisation, preservation, and sharing of data generated within scientific projects. It also aims to strengthen collaboration between academic units and central services in the development of sustainable and effective data management solutions.

The operational implementation of this new service is overseen by UPdigital, through its Documentation and Information Management Service (SGDI), which is also responsible for digital preservation and the modernisation of technological infrastructures for managing both administrative and scientific information.

With the creation of the PoRDC, the University of Porto reinforces its strategic commitment to Open Science, playing an active role in the public dissemination of scientific output and research data. This initiative reaffirms the University's dedication to the democratisation of knowledge, the sustainability of research, and academic excellence.

With the aim of promoting interoperability between scientific information systems, optimising information management, and contributing to the development of reliable research assessment metrics, the University of Porto, through SGDI, has been encouraging the adoption of persistent identifiers such as ORCID, Ciência ID, ROR, and DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

Also noteworthy is the role of the U.Porto Open Repository, which ensures the preservation and dissemination of the University's scientific output, as well as the negotiation of transformative agreements with academic journal publishers and the University's active participation in the b-on (Online Knowledge Library) consortium.
