Highlights

FCT has released the calendar for the 2025 scheduled calls. The annual edition of the ICDT projects and exploratory projects (PeX) calls in October 2025 are confirmed, both very sought after by the scientific community. A new edition of the Tenure programme has also been confirmed. More information here.

FCT has published the opening notice for the 2025 Call for PhD Research Studentships in all Scientific Fields. Application submissions are open from 17 March to 16 April and 1,550 studentships are expected to be awarded. More information here.

Seven public consultations by the European Commission are available with the aim of gathering contributions for the development of comprehensive proposals for the next generation of Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) programmes post-2027. More information here.

Funding Opportunities

POCTEP 7th Call - Operations of Strategic Importancea

This call will support strategic multi-regional cross-border cooperation projects between Spain and Portugal. Applications must align with the specific objectives of Research, Climate Change and Risk Prevention, or Health, Care, and Proximity. The minimum budget per project is 4 million euros.

5th EU-LAC Joint Call in STI 2025

With the aim of promoting sustainable cooperation between Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean, the call intends to fund transnational research and innovation projects in the areas of Bioeconomy, Energy, and Open Science. Projects can have a maximum duration of 36 months and the maximum allocation for Portuguese entities is 300,000 euros.

EIC Pathfinder Open 2025

The call aims to fund low TRL level research projects with the potential to create new markets and/or provide solutions to global challenges, in any scientific area. Funding up to 3 million euros and flexible project duration.

MSCA Staff Exchanges 2025

Support for short-term (maximum 12 months) international and intersectoral exchanges between academic and non-academic organisations (including SMEs) to promote collaboration in research and innovation. The call opens on 27 March, with an expected budget of 82.76 million euros.
