U.Porto Reitoria SIP
… In addition to the 48 R&D Units that make up U.Porto's research ecosystem, our scientific community includes around 40 R&D Units from the national scientific and technological system?

Researchers from the University of Porto's schools are part of a total of 37 R&D Units external to the U.Porto ecosystem, which itself comprises 48 research units. 21 out of these 48 are coordinated in partnership with other national institutions.

These external units, which cover six scientific fields and include both public and private institutions, are funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under the Multi-Annual R&D Unit Funding Programme. They are distributed across the country, fostering a diverse research network.

With these 37 external units, the total number of R&D Units with integrated researchers from U.Porto rises to 85.

The diverse presence of U.Porto’s scientific community reflects the variety and quality of research and technological development activities, highlighting collaboration, the sharing of resources, knowledge, and experiences among researchers and the R&D Units that host them.

This diversity enhances synergies, as well as the capacity for innovation and the production of high-quality scientific outcomes, benefiting not only the institutions involved but also society as a whole.
