Highlights

U.Porto’s Participation in the FCT’s Exploratory Projects Call (PeX)

FCT's PeX call for exploratory projects closed at the end of February 2025 with strong engagement from U.Porto’s scientific community. A total of 514 applications were submitted, representing a 50% increase compared to the 2024 edition.

A new ERC grant has been awarded to Clara Pereira, from FCUP and LAQV-REQUIMTE, as the principal investigator. The project SelfEnergyDriver aims to develop a self-sustaining hybrid textile technology capable of generating and storing energy from body heat and moisture. More information here.

The DIGITAL Work Programme will provide support amounting to €3.2 billion between 2025 and 2027, with over half allocated to Partnerships and European Competence Centres. Particular emphasis will be placed on the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which will play a significant role in the distribution of funds. More information here.

Funding Opportunities

2025 Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation Prize

This prize aims to distinguish projects that promote the conservation, restoration, and monitoring of biodiversity in Portugal. Each proposal must be coordinated by a researcher who has held a PhD for at least five years. Projects may receive funding between €100,000 and €250,000 and have a maximum duration of 36 months.

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025

The MSCA Fellowships aim to boost the creativity and innovation of PhD researchers through advanced training and international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral mobility. Grants are divided into European and Global Fellowships, lasting between 12 and 24 months, and are open to all scientific fields.

CYTED Thematic Networks 2025

The 2025 Call aims to promote the creation of networks between research groups and Ibero-American companies to address common challenges within the following thematic areas: Agri-food; Health; Promotion of industrial development; Sustainable development, global change and ecosystems; Information and communication technologies; Science and society; and Energy. Projects can run for up to 48 months.

EIC Transition Open

This call aims to support the maturation and validation of innovative technologies, from experimental proof of concept (TRL 3/4) to demonstrations in relevant environments (TRL 5/6), including the development of business plans for commercialisation. Funding can reach up to €2.5 million per project.
