U.Porto has increasingly established itself as a leading institution in both the national and international scientific landscape, largely thanks to its active involvement in collaborative science networks and consortia. This engagement helps to consolidate the University’s position as a reference institution for knowledge production and transfer, fostering synergies and scientific cooperation with institutions of recognised merit across diverse fields of study.
Among the main networks in which U.Porto is involved, the following stand out:
COST Actions – U.Porto actively participates in over 400 COST Actions, which promote the creation of science networks across Europe, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific advancement in emerging fields.
European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) – Through its participation in various Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) of the EIT, U.Porto contributes to the integration of higher education, research, and the business sector, boosting innovation and entrepreneurship in areas such as health, manufacturing, raw materials, and the cultural and creative industries.
European Public-Private Partnerships – U.Porto engages in several collaborative partnerships, notably the European Innovation Partnerships and Joint Technology Initiatives, which bring together academic institutions, research centres, industry, and public bodies with the aim of promoting innovation that addresses societal challenges and strengthens European competitiveness.
U.Porto’s participation in science networks represents a core dimension of its internationalisation strategy, enhancing the scientific knowledge produced by its researchers and fostering the integration of the University’s academic community into ecosystems of scientific excellence, in close collaboration with internationally esteemed peer institutions.
