Promoted by the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation Galicia-North of Portugal (GNP, AECT), the IACOBUS Programme aims to foster interregional integration among universities, technology centres, and other higher education institutions within the Euroregion. This cultural, scientific, and pedagogical cooperation programme is based on the priorities set out in the Joint Investment Plan for the Galicia-North of Portugal Euroregion 2021-2027 (PIC 21-27) and the areas defined by the Galicia-North of Portugal Cross-Border Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3-T). These strategic documents take a multi themed approach.
With three distinct participation modalities (research stays, patents, and papers), the IACOBUS Programme is open to academics, researchers, administrative and support staff, innovation managers, as well as research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) technicians.
As a university that combines a strong commitment to teaching with excellence in scientific research and knowledge transfer, this programme represents a funding opportunity of particular interest to our research ecosystem, which is eligible to apply for this competitive funding.
Between 2018 and 2023, U.Porto's research ecosystem secured funding through the IACOBUS Programme for 137 incoming mobilities, 48 outgoing mobilities, and 121 papers. Provisional data regarding the patents modality in the 2024/25 edition of the programme indicate that one U.Porto application has been approved for funding.
The IACOBUS Programme launches annual calls, and the scientific community within the U.Porto ecosystem has been benefiting from these financial incentives in the context of research, innovation, outreach, or training activities involving collaboration within the Galicia–North of Portugal Euroregion.
