Highlights

Results of the 2023 ICDT Call in All Scientific Domains from COMPETE / FCT

The provisional results of this call, which took place last year, have recently been announced. Of the 316 applications submitted or supported by U.Porto faculties, the current success rate exceeds 34%.

The 2025 Work Programmes have been published, and calls are expected to open on the Funding & Tenders Portal from mid-May. Special emphasis goes to the thematic clusters (Pillar II), where U.Porto’s academic community has had a strong presence. More information here.

The GIA checklist is now available to the academic community, enabling an ex ante evaluation, analysis or assessment of a new research proposal that makes it possible to identify sex and genderdimension in research idea and its design, implementation and dissemination phases. Funding Opportunities

MIT Portugal - Seed Grant Proposals

This call is aimed at MIT researchers in collaboration with Portuguese teams. Projects in various scientific fields may last between 1 and 2 years, with funding of up to $200,000 per year. Higher amounts may be requested with proper justification.

ERC Advanced Grants

These grants aim to support outstanding researchers who are established leaders in their field. ERC ADG funding can reach up to €2.5 million over a five-year period for pioneering research projects.

Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) 2025

Call for funding of collaborative research and innovation projects (up to 36 months) addressing challenges in water management and agri-food sustainability in the Mediterranean region. Funding ranges from €150,000 to €250,000 for Portuguese entities, whether as participants or coordinators, respectively.

Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking

The 13 open calls aim to support projects that promote a sustainable circular bioeconomy in Europe, focusing on priority areas such as sustainable biological raw materials, circular biorefineries, novel biomaterials, and circular solutions for industrial sectors. With a total budget of €172 million, projects may receive between €1 million and €20 million in funding.
