Highlights

Throughout December, registration is open for the 2024 edition of this academic competition, aimed at U.Porto doctoral students. Participants are challenged to present their research in a 3-minute pitch to a panel of judges and a non-specialist audience. More information here.

FCT has made a form available for PhD researchers to express their interest in collaborating with the organization. The roles involve activities in science dissemination and communication, as well as coordination and support for evaluation processes under the FCT's responsibility. More information here.

The European Commission has published an update to this Charter, originally launched in 2015. It establishes non-regulatory principles and guidelines for access to European research infrastructures, which play a crucial role in European scientific activity. More information here.

Funding Opportunities

'la Caixa' Foundation Social Research Call 2025

Support of €115,000 for social research projects of up to two years on current and emerging social challenges based on quantitative evidence. The first phase of the call consists of submitting simplified applications (short proposals).

Aimed at FCT-funded PhD students whose training plan includes a period of research (4 to 9 months) at a US university or research centre.

Calls for Exploratory Projects from the CMU-Portugal, MIT-Portugal and UT Austin-Portugal 2024 Programmes

These FCT international partnerships support high-risk, disruptive scientific projects. With a duration of up to 12 months and funding of €50,000, the projects must have a high potential impact on the development and valorisation of the scientific results obtained.

Promoted by the Amélia de Mello Foundation, it aims to support research projects focused on decarbonisation and industrial innovation. Worth €150,000, it aims to develop proofs of concept applicable to the Portuguese business sector.
